Policy statement by The Rowdeford Charity Trust in response to the recent decision by Wiltshire Council on the future of SEND within Wiltshire.- January 2019
The Trust raises funds through its charitable activities and grant applications. Since its formation the Charity has raised and invested in excess of some £I.5 million of funding which has enhanced the estate and facilities at Rowdeford substantially. The most significant examples are the Arts Centre and the recently completed Outdoor Learning Centre.
The Trust welcomes the decision by Wiltshire Council to retain the Rowdeford School site as part of its plans to develop the future provision of SEND within North Wiltshire. The Trust considers however that subject to the outcomes of the formal consultation on the decision the published pupil numbers, their age ranges, as well as the additional buildings will change significantly, perhaps adversely, what has been identified as ‘the magic that is Rowdeford School’.
The Trustees on behalf of the Trust, the School and its supporters would welcome early sight of the new school designs and Business Plan so that they can consider more fully the proposals. Inevitably, the Trust is unlikely to progress new initiatives until detailed future proposals are known. However it will continue to support earlier initiatives, especially concerning the horticultural and woodland aspects of the site."
