PROJECTS

Rowdeford Charity Trust invests in projects that make a difference to the lives and the futures of children with special needs at Rowdeford School but also all children with special needs across Wiltshire and surrounding counties.  As a state funded school with limited resources these enterprising projects could not otherwise take place.

'Growing Sustainable Futures'

The Rowdeford Eco-Learning Project aims to open doors to rewarding and sustainable futures in the community and in workplaces for young people with communication and interaction difficulties.

To achieve this, the school is striving to become a hub for community environmental learning breaking down barriers between people with special needs, the wider community and workplaces.

September 2010

The Arts Centre is a self contained building within the school campus created from the derelict Coach House.  It has flexible accommodation consisting of several smaller cosy studios surrounding a wood lined performance studio with sprung floors.  The Arts Centre has enabled the school to provide arts and music therapy.  The Centre is widely used for dance and performing arts by the school and the local community both within and outside school hours including such activities as training for parents and carers of children with special needs, a National Autistic Society Youth Club and holiday clubs.  The Arts Centre cost £580,000

September 2010

In January 2003 we were granted a People's Places Award. The award has been used to create a pathway suitable for wheelchair users along the length of the woodland.
We have put in place a native woodland management plan for the next five years, with the aims of achieving Local Nature Reserve status and providing an 'outdoor classroom' for young people.

September 2010
There are problems with this project, because of the healthy deer and rabbit populations, but we are keen to develop areas which demand the use of various senses such as smell, hearing and touch.

December 2010
There is an area of grass alongside the woodland, which is to be left to grow wild and developed as miniature wildflower meadows.
It will be divided into five sectors, so that different methods can be used and results be monitored and recorded by groups of students.

September 2010
The charity's object is to advance education for children and young people with disabilities and special needs. It is therefore necessary that there should be disabled access for all facilities provided and we are taking steps to achieve that.

This smaller project created a quiet preparation area from a renovated Victorian Apple Store.  It forms an attractive feature for the children to enjoy and has made it available for safe and practical use.

Completed
April 2007
We have restored much of the original fabric and created a working example of a Victorian walled garden. The renovation of the Victorian Kitchen Garden has provided horticultural and science learning opportunities as well as work experience for pupils and young offenders. We also use the produce from the walled garden and the walled orchard to supplement produce in the kitchen and in food Technology
