| Progress on the Eco Learning Centre |
During the year preliminary work has been done examining the feasibility for the next project to be supported by the Trust. It was agreed that, as a first step within a broader Vocational Training Project, the focus should be on the creation of an Eco Learning Centre providing vocational training in outdoor activities. This builds on the work already done with horticulture at the school and utilises the rich woodland on the campus. It is anticipated that the derelict kennels site will be utilised for an environmentally sustainable new building to support these activities. There is strong support in the school and the wider community for the project and it was felt that the next stage was to appoint a Project Director, jointly funded by the Trust and the School and this has resulted in the appointment of Belinda Manning. Belinda has for the last 3 years been the Business Development Manager/Project Manager/Education and Safety Manager at the Sir Edmund Hillary Outdoor Pursuits Centre in Auckland, New Zealand. Prior to this she worked for the National Autistic Society as centre manager. She originally trained as a Primary School Teacher. Belinda starts in January and we can't wait to hear all her ideas. |

| Mike Bowden MBE | It seems fitting in the tenth year of the Charity that Mike Bowden should be honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours with an MBE. Mike Bowden was made an MBE for his inspirational services to special educational needs. Mr Bowden, 73, of Rowde, has been a governor at Rowdeford School near Devizes, a school for children with complex learning difficulties, since 1996. He set up Rowdeford Charity Trust in 2001 and it has raised about £1 million. This has been spent on projects such as an arts centre and a Victorian walled garden. Mr Bowden has served as chairman, secretary and treasurer of the charity and is honorary president and trustee. He said: “I’m quite staggered to be awarded the MBE. It’s quite an honour.” He added: “I feel very satisfied with what the charity has done. We have done far more than I expected. Many of the children at Rowdeford wouldn’t survive in a mainstream school. “Rowdeford sends them out into the world with confidence.” As well as congratulating him very warmly for his MBE, Rowdeford School has honoured Mike by naming the main hall in the Arts Centre the Bowden Hall. |

Garden Fair |
Thank you everyone for the magnificent support given to the Garden Fair. It really does just get better year after year and this year a record £12,000 was raised from this well attended event that was enjoyed by so many of you. |
| A Summary of the AGM | Jonny Grew gave the Chairman’s report. This is attached. In particular, Jonny drew attention to the proposed new Vocational Centre project which would be the focus for the Charity’s future support. There is a great deal of work required to shape this opportunity. In reality any building work would be unlikely before September 2013. The annual accounts were tabled and were subject to audit. While expenditure exceeded income by £137,877 owing to the expenditure profile for the Arts Therapy Centre, the Charity’s position remained positive with year end funds carried forward of £37,260. This sum together with income committed as at 5th April 2010 and fundraising expected in 2010/11 is sufficient to meet the residual needs of the Arts Therapy Centre. The final total for the project is estimated at £560,000 which is under the £600,000 budgeted due to careful cost management of the build and fitting out. The cost of running the Charity remained low with no paid employees and very small administrative overheads. Elizabeth Frearson gave the Fundraising report on behalf of Nemmy Elliot, which is attached. The new strategy put into place last year has proved a great success and all targets were exceeded. Ingrid Lancaster-Gaye gave her sincere thanks to the Trustees, Patrons and volunteers for their hard work and commitment to the Charity. Visitors to fundraising events often seem totally unaware that absolutely everyone who is contributing to the success of the Charity is doing it on an entirely voluntary basis. The school and all those that benefit from the projects funded by the Charity are extremely grateful. The Chairman brought the meeting to a close. |
